SEO Tools New Blogs Can Use to Drive Organic Traffic

SEO tools every blog needs to drive traffic from google

SEO for a blog, it’s kind of a big deal.  Having your website properly optimized for search engines can translate into some serious organic traffic.

The problem here is that becoming an SEO ninja is tough, like really tough.  It may well be the most difficult task in your blogging adventure.

Starting a blog and getting it online is the easy part.  Writing content?  you’ve got that down.  Getting your website ranked high in search engines?  Well, that is an entirely different story, but don’t worry I can help show you the tricks and tools that the most seasoned SEO experts use to drive traffic to their websites.

If you want to give your new blog a fighting chance you need to use SEO tools to optimize content.  Content is still king, and useful content will always win, but what good is your amazing content if no one can actually find it?

2 Must Have SEO Tools

Mangools is an Inexpensive SEO tool that can help give your blog a boost in Google search results. It is completely free to try, and it’d be a poor decision to not do so.

It’s one of, if not the cheapest SEO suites on the market and I’d recommend it for beginner to intermediate blogs. The number of tools and features included are the same as many higher priced SEO suites you can purchase and the easy to use interface makes for a small learning curve.

SEMRush is a tool many experts use to optimize their content for both Search Engine results and Search Engine Marketing. This is a more advanced tool that is thought of by many to be the undisputed king of search engine optimization. I’d recommend this tool for intermediate to advanced blogs and ones that plan on running paid advertisements to drive traffic. However, new bloggers who are more serious about turning their website into a full time income can go ahead and use this platform.

I’ll give you a more in-depth look below at why you need to use tools like these if you’re even half serious about making your content visible and seen by others and if you want to earn money from your blogging endeavors.

For transparency, I use Mangools, and have been more than satisfied with the number of included features. I have not felt the need to upgrade to a more advanced platform like SEMRush, yet. In the future, I’m sure I will, but Mangools serves me well for the time being and helped me gain 5X the amount of Google traffic in just 2 months of use.

When I started my first blog I viewed optimization tools and suites as optional. After years of creating blogs and writing, I now look back and chuckle at how naive I was. Blogging is so incredibly competitive, no matter your chosen niche. I cannot stress enough the importance of understanding how to build and structure blog content for search engine visibility.

Let’s take a look at some SEO basics before we jump into an overview of these tools.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it is the process of obtaining free traffic from organic search results through search engines.

So, let’s say you have a blog post about “Training Dogs”.  If that post is optimized correctly for search engines you can generate a lot of free traffic just from people searching dog training in Google and clicking on your link.

If your website happens to have poor SEO, search engines will rank you low, and you won’t be getting much traffic.

To put it simply, optimizing your website properly can take you from 100 visitors a month to 100,000.  SEO requires a lot of time, so don’t expect those results over night, but with hard work and patience, you could easily get there.  Stick with it!

Why is SEO Difficult for New Blogs?

SEO isn’t as worrisome for established blogs.  Their loyal reader base, far reaching social media presence, and countless backlinks/referring domains (external links on other websites which link back to your website) all over the web help propel each new post published to the front pages of search engines.

So, when your blog is new, your SEO ranking will be at the bottom of the barrel.  You haven’t yet generated organic backlinks, you most likely don’t have a large social media presence, and the bottom line is that while your blog may be on the internet, no one knows it exists.

This means you’re finished, right?  Absolutely not!  Fortunately for you, there are many companies that recognize that SEO is a big need for any website owner, and there are some truly fantastic SEO products that can assist in elevating your blog from the murky depths of google search results into the sunshine and on the front page.

Don’t Forget about SEM! (Search Engine Marketing)

When using specialized SEO platforms you’ll also get access to handy SEM tools (Search Engine Marketing).  Search marketing includes everything under the umbrella of paid search promotion for the purpose of driving traffic to your website (Pay Perk Click, Social Media Marketing).

When you use Google Adsense or spend a bit to advertise your blog on Facebook, you’re engaging in Search Engine Marketing (SEM for short).  These tools help you create better ads, that will convert at a higher rate which means more clicks, more traffic, and more sales on your website.

SEO is organic traffic, while SEM is traffic you pay for.

Maybe now you’re starting to see the importance of SEO and SEM for your blog.  New bloggers spend countless hours writing content and building their site only to discover that articles aren’t properly optimized for SEO which translates into heaps of wasted time and zero visitors to your website.

I’m willing to bet the number one reason most bloggers quit is due to a lack of traffic.  So, to help you avoid the same fate as those failed blogs, let’s take a look at how using Mangools, SEMRush or Google Search Console can help improve your SEO and drive much more organic traffic to your blog.

Each keyword includes relevant data metrics from search engines with daily updates.  This means you are always on top of what is being searched within your niche, how many other websites are fighting for those keywords, and what the best keywords for ranking higher in search results are.

Go ahead and try it below, enter a keyword to see it in action.

Generate a list of keywords you’d like to target and begin integrating them into your blog posts.  Don’t just randomly copy and paste though, make sure your content flows nicely.

Finding Long Tail Keywords with Low Competition can really help boost your organic traffic which is the entire purpose of SEO, so you’re already off to a good start, and your blog is more optimized already.

Below I was doing some keyword research on “work from home jobs” for one of my articles.  I can view how frequently a keyword is searched (how popular a keyword is), and more importantly how difficult it is to rank with each keyword.  Knowing which keywords to avoid and which ones to target is a powerful asset for any blog owner.

Let’s Look at Why Understanding Keyword Ranking and Competition is so Important for SEO.

SERPChecker – Keyword Ranking Analysis Tool

Analysis tool that allows you to check both mobile and desktop ranking for keywords and other website data.

When you begin to research how you can rank for a specific keyword you’ll want to know more information about who your competitors are, and a get detailed breakdown of how difficult it will be to rank with each selected keyword.

Using highly competitive keywords on a new blog is a good way to guarantee a low search ranking that will bottle neck your traffic.  This is a common mistake new bloggers are guilty of making, and one that often kills a blog before it really gets going..

Let’s look at how you can use SERPChecker to carefully select appropriate keywords.

KD –  Keyword Difficulty Metrics for SEO

This is how you’ll discover keywords you want to target, and keywords you’ll want to stay away from.

SERPChecker is one of my favorite features with Mangools.  I love having the ability to anticipate how difficult ranking with a keyword will be in Google.

New blogs will want to focus on selecting keywords that have low competition and low keyword difficulty.  As your blog becomes more and more established within search engines you can then begin to target highly competitive keywords.

You can see how searching “business” in SERPChecker provides valuable metrics.  Right off the bat, we see just how difficult it would be to rank with that keyword, and Mangools recommends not even trying.

This is why it’s such a useful tool for new blogs and beginners.  You could be wasting hours writing content and targeting keywords that have no chance of being ranked.

Quickly find which keywords should be strictly avoided, and ones that should be targeted.

use seo tools to avoid keywords that are hard to rank with
“Business” is a competitive keyword that will get you nowhere.

Take time to research some long tail keywords with low competition.  You’ll be happy with the results, and your blog will see a nice bump in traffic after a while.

long tail keywords with low competition for SEO
Expanding the targeted keyword from “Business” to “Business tips for small business owners” shows that it’s a much better option, and we should target that keyword instead. 244 Million searches is more than enough traffic, and a keyword difficulty score of 25/100 means its a keyword ripe for the picking.

Mangools LinkMiner Tool for Backlinks SEO

This is where you’ll be able to track backlinks to your site and see how your blog measures up against the competition.

Find backlink opportunities that you can replicate yourself to start building search authority.

Simply search your domain or one of your competitor’s domains for a detailed look at what websites are linking back.  It’s a useful tool to see how well your website is rooted online, and how many backlinks you’re generating.

Its also one of the best ways you can find new backlink leads for your blog.

Give it a try!  Search any Domain Below

How do You Get a Backlink?

Backlinks and referring domains are incredibly important for SEO, maybe the most important outside of creating quality content and keyword selection.  If content is the first line of defense, keywords and backlinks are the reinforcements.

When you search your competition with LinkMiner you get access to a detailed list of the websites linking to them.  You can then use this information to reach out to the linking websites and inquire about a link to your website.

Not all websites you reach out to will link to yours, but a lot will if you have quality content on your blog that might be relevant to their readers.  Each backlink you nab puts you one step closer to obtaining a high ranking in search engines.

Mangools SERPWatcher Tool (Track Your Keyword Ranking)

Once you start to better optimize your content with Mangools, you’ll want progress updates to make certain your efforts are being rewarded.

You can use this tool to receive daily updates on how your tracked keywords are performing in search engines, and then make changes as you see fit.

Sometimes we need a little feedback, and SERPWatcher will tell you exactly where you’re going right, and what areas need serious improvement.

Knowing if you are ranking low with your keywords is incredibly useful information to have at your disposal.

Without SERPWatcher you’d have no idea if your hard SEO work was paying off, but with SERPWatcher you have access to information which allows you to make the appropriate changes (add more keywords, switch up targeted keywords, better optimize your keywords) to your content so you can start ranking better, and get more traffic.  This information is updated daily as well, so you can make close to real time changes on the fly.

5. SiteProfiler SEO Tool

Use the SiteProfiler tool to obtain in depth breakdowns of your competitor’s websites.

Important metrics like Domain Authority, Page Authority, and Social Media Shares can be tracked and viewed easily.

Final Thoughts on Optimizing Your Website Using Mangools

I use Mangools personally, and I only give recommendations to products I love and trust.  It’s a product that has changed how I approach writing content and SEO strategies.

It’s also extremely useful for SEM so if you do decide to do a bit of paid Search Marketing you’re covered.  However, SEMRush is much more powerful when it comes to SEM optimization, and I’m going to be covering that in the next paragraph.

Knowledge is power, and Mangools gives me unlimited access to data that can be used for some serious SEO foundation building.

The basic plan alone is worth its weight in gold, and I’d highly recommend that anyone who is serious about making money from their website try Mangools for at least one month.  It’s free to try so you really have nothing to lose.

You can signup here for a free account to test it out.

2. SEMRush – SEM and SEO Advanced Tools

SEM and SEO Marketing Tools

SEMRush is the go to marketing tool for many new and established blogs looking for a powerful SEO package.

Their organic traffic insight tools are hard to match, and the amount of data you’re able to gather from not only your own website, but your competitors is extremely useful.

SEMRush is considered to be the go-to platform when it comes to SEO and SEM by many.

How Can SEMRush Help Drive Traffic to Your New Blog?

When it comes to SEO, having a gander at what your competitors are doing is a commonly deployed strategy for seasoned bloggers.

Learning how successful websites are able to drive organic traffic to their domains is paramount in finding your own SEO success.

Without SEO tools you are blindly writing content in the dark and hoping something might stick.  This can doom new blogs from the beginning before they have a chance to succeed.

If your blog is more of a fun project or side hobby you do not need to concern yourself with SEO tools.  Only use SEO tools if you are planning to earn a part time or full time income from your blog.

SEMRush Key Features

  • Ranking tracking
  • Audit tools
  • Organic keyword research
  • Backlinks tool
  • Tons of insight and data on your competitors
  • Long-tail keyword research
  • Track various metrics
  • Identify data that can drive high converting advertisements
  • A multitude of adsense and advertising features that will give you a considerable edge over your competition.  If your main focus is SEM  there is a lot to like here.

Compare your domains with your competition so you can make up ground and keep the progress you’ve made.  Once you start to rank high, you’ll want to make sure you hold onto that ranking.  This tool allows you to monitor your competitors and make sure you are not losing any of the SEO ground you have already gained.

Analytics and Tracking Tools To Improve SEO

Advanced analytics give you the ability to track and view relevant information about your competitors.

If you notice them doing considerably better than you with organic search these tools will tell you why that is.  You can then improve your content, optimize your website and start gaining ground.

Take Control of Your Social Media with Full Automation

Cross-network social media publishing is a nifty feature.  Tired of having to post to Twitter…then Facebook…then Pinterest…you get the idea.

Social Media Poster allows you to push out all your social media content from one centralized platform.  Saves you tons of valuable time that can be better spent working on more important things.  You’ll promote a lot more as well if posting is this easy which means more traffic.

SEM Research

Researching keywords and strategies to incorporate into SEM is Incredibly important if you plan on spending money to promote your blog.  Without proper research, you’ll just end up throwing money away.

Advertising can be amazing if you’re targeting correctly or it can be a massive waste of money if you are just blindly creating ads to run on Google.

Search Marketing Tools

These help nail down high converting keywords, and more importantly lower your CPC (Cost per Click).  The most popular search terms will have more websites competing for them which means the CPC advertisers charge is higher.  This is known as PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising.

You can use SEM to optimize your advertising campaigns which will go a long way to help you convert at a high rate and at a much lower cost.

The money you save on SEM with SEMRush tools could very well pay for the cost of your membership in the first month.

Final Thoughts about SEMRush for SEO and SEM

SEMRush is an advanced suite filled with powerful tools for improving SEO and SEM.

It’s hard to argue with the number of features you get, and while I love Mangools for personal use, I can see why SEMRush is what most experts use.

If you’re intending to make any money with your blog I highly recommend leveraging SEO tools to get a considerable advantage over your competitors.  Not only that but if your website has poor SEO optimization you’re just not going to receive any organic traffic.

Use this link to get access to a free trial and see for yourself.  Won’t cost you a thing, so you really have nothing to lose.

3. Google Search Console – A Must Have SEO Tool That’s Free

Google Search Console is an absolute necessity for website owners.  The data it provides is extremely valuable for understanding your website’s traffic, and the areas that you might want to focus on fixing.  Signing up for a search console account is 100% free.

Not only can you see the amount of webclicks and impressions (how many times your website appeared in Google search results), but you can see exactly which keywords brought a user to your site.  This means we can pin down which keywords are performing well and which ones are not.

This is where you’ll start to see the benefits of SEO tools like Mangools or SEMRush.  Without these tools I guarantee your website’s traffic will be a fraction of what it could be.

Mobile Usability for SEO

Earlier this year Google made some changes to their search algorithm that put a lot of emphasis on mobile search.  Websites not properly optimized for mobile devices will now take a considerable hit to their ranking.

One of the best things you can do for SEO with a new blog is to ensure it is responsive and mobile friendly right off the bat.

Mobile Friendly websites are essential for SEO

Best of all, Google tells you exactly what’s wrong with your page if they happen to index it as NOT mobile friendly.  They specifically list what elements need to be fixed before you’ll get that sweet mobile friendly checkmark next to your URL.

Final Thoughts on SEO

The importance of SEO for new blogs is something that should not be ignored.  There is so much competition online in every niche now that rising above the noise is a challenge.

It use to be all you needed to do was spam a few keywords across some semi useful content and you’d rank high, but that is no longer the case.

This is where SEO comes in.  SEO gives your content a chance to actually be seen and appreciated.  Without it, all that hard work was for nothing.

The Elusive Backlink

These seem to be the bottle neck for a lot of new blogs.  They are hard to get and can be time consuming.  Once your blog starts growing, backlinks are much easier to obtain, but in the beginning, it can be a bit of an uphill battle.

Alternatively, you could use Accessily to purchase guest posts in exchange for a backlink to your website.  I’ve never used it myself but it is a reputable way to boost your SEO fast.  It appears the price is around $175 per guest post, which isn’t too bad if you don’t have any other options or time is a factor. Check it out here.

I suppose some people may find the price worth it, but I’d much rather spend that money on Tools that will actually help me generate backlinks consistently.

Advertising Disclosure – Magools and SEMRush links may contain affiliate links at no extra cost to you.  If you decide to purchase a plan through those links I will receive a commission.

I personally use Mangools for my own SEO optimization, and SEMRush is one of the highest rated SEO tool suites online.  I only recommend legitimate and useful products that I personally use or that I feel may be of great benefit to anyone reading my content.  If you have any questions about the advertising on this website, or in the article above, feel free to contact me.
