Once upon a time, I used Fiverr regularly. Freelance gigs were abundant and I often had to pick and choose which projects I wanted to take on.

Then, something happened…my job postings stopped generating interest, and my once healthy stream of freelance jobs slowly dried up. I was confused at first and after a few days of head-scratching, I started to do some investigating to see if I could find the root of the problem.

I learned a few things. The first was the prices that freelancers were charging on Fiverr and Upwork had significantly dropped. My fees were no longer competitive and there was a bevy of other freelancers willing to do the same job I was doing for half the price.

I did some quick math and realized I did have some wiggle room with my fees and could lower them and still earn a sustainable income. However, I couldn’t lower them enough to remain competitive and so I knew I had to come up with another strategy to stand out from the crowd and recapture my lost freelance revenue.

So, after going back to the drawing board I made a few changes that proved to be successful and I thought I’d share some of the things I did with you, so that if you’re having difficulty getting freelance jobs you can implement some of these strategies to drive traffic to your job listings.

Make sure you’re doing a bit of keyword research using a tool like SEMRush to ensure your listings are jam-packed with organic traffic-generating keywords.

Really try and sell yourself and explain why you’re the best freelancer for the job.

Doing this will add a face and a voice to your business and instill confidence in potential buyers. Written online ads can seem cold and impersonal but by adding video you can make the experience slightly more intimate for the buyer which will also help with building a long term client list.

Fiverr is a very competitive market place. The amount of freelancers offering high quality work for very little money is growing more every day. It’s hard to compete with such low prices if you live in a part of the world where the living expenses are a lot higher.

However, you can generate enough sales to make it a full time career by using the tips and tricks listed above and being diligent about not giving up.

I’d much rather take a little less money and be my own boss than slave away at a 9 – 5 where my personal freedom and time management are left in the hands of someone else. I enjoy the freedom that comes with freelance gigs and they allow me to design my own day and choose how I organize and manage my time.
